Male genitalia
Vinculum standard. Tegumen tubular, broad. Uncus elongate, triangular, attached at the narrow point of the triangle and reflexed dorsally (in the natural position) over the tegumen. Sacculus rectangular: anteroventral margain concave; anterolateral angle rounded; lateral margin concave; posterolateral angle 90° and does not reach valvula; free posterior margin very short. Valvula elongate. Transtilla simple, almost meeting in midline. Juxta standard. Tunica simple. Vesica without annulus or sclerotised arc. Long comb of cornuti in vesica. Distinguished from C.ibipennella and C.betulella by the broad tegumen, triangular uncus and short lateral saccular margin. |
Male genital key: tegumen broad; apex of sacculus well short of valva; median lobe of gnathos triangular

Female genitalia
AP standard hairy domes, bordered anteriorly by a sclerotised (dorsoventral) line which bears the PA at its mid-point. PA straight ~2xOP. Dorsal plate of A8 very lightly sclerotised in its anterior half, the sclerotisation not reaching the lateral plates. OP very simple; Dutch-cap-shaped lateral plates, which naturally lie in the dorsoventral plane, bear the AA at their anteroposterodorsal extremity. AA short ~¾xOP. There is no ventral plate as such, but the lateral plates are connected by a strong narrow sclerotised band that forms the ventral margin to the ostium. In lateral view, in the natural position, the posteroventral margin of the lateral plates is concave, such that the band connecting them is produced ventrally and the ostium opens in the transverse plane of the abdomen. In the set position the lateral plates are turned out through ~90° and the posterolateral margin of the OP then appears rounded (this provides an important distinction from C.anatipennella in which there is a distinct posterolateral angle. Medial margin of the lateral plates is lined with spines; between these plates and the ostium the PM appear deeply and squarely incised. Ostium opens into a funnel-shaped antrum with no distinct junction with DB. Posterior ½ of DB fairly straight, angled slightly to the left and twists through 90° on its long axis; then curves sharply to the right and slightly posteriorly and narrows; then enters a small pouch into which the ductus seminilis also opens; from here the DB broadens again, curves anteriorly to its junction with BC. Sclerotisations: confluent in posterior ⅔ (as far as the end of the first (posterior) curve, though only on one side in the curve); bilinear strengthening as far as start of first curve, the lines becoming densely spiculate in their anterior ½; sparse spiculation of pouch. Junction with BC distinct. BC ovoid. Signum a large thorn with a relatively narrow roundish base plate and a long curved spike.
