ID: Group D - plain with a pale costal stripe
Genital dissection required to distinguish from other species in Group D
Genital dissection required to distinguish from other species in Group D
The pale costal stripe of this species is fairly indistinct, just a shade paler than the forewing ground colour - this is actually a unique feature within Group D and may be sufficient to identify it without dissection. It is most similar to C.lutipennella (Group C).
Male genitalia
V a narrow anterior bar extending laterally to become continuous with the posteromedial margin of the posterior process of the sacculus, no direct connection to tegumen; A7/8 ISM partially sclerotised as a flap extending posteriorly from the margin of the vinculum over the bases of the sacculi, before recurving to its attachment to the posterior border of A7. T hour glass shaped with a tubular body, side arms extending to junction with costa. Gnathos standard. Sacculus very distinctive; anteroventral margin smoothly rounded, set with spines towards and around the rounded anterolateral angle; posterolateral angle more angular; posterior margin with a broad posterior process bearing a strong spine, which is naturally perpendicular to the sacculus. An extension of the posterior process from the base of the spine attaches to the base of the valvula. Outer surface of sacculus strongly sclerotised, inner surface weakly sclerotised. Valvula elongate digitate, its base merging into the costa. Posterior margin of costa attaches to the anterior ends of the tegumen; anterior margin of costa extends medially as a weak transtilla; a stronger band extends across the diaphragm from the inner surface of the sacculus to support the aedeagus laterally. Juxta a narrow midline band extending from the medial junction of the sacculi to the base of the aedeagus. Tunica simple with a slender cornutus at its base. Vesica without sclerotisations. |
Male genital key: Sacculus with a spinous posterior process arising from a truncate projection from the posterior margin.
Female genitalia
AP elongate, narrow; PA ~1.5xOP. A8 dorsal plate entire; AP short ~0.5xOP. OP elongate, with a discrete bib-shaped sclerotisation with free anterior and lateral margins and a V-shaped posterior margin forming the anterior margin of the ostium. Ostium near PM. Antrum confluently sclerotised to AM. DB with dense coarse circumferential spiculation in posterior half; diffuse fine spiculation in anterior half; one coil in anterior half. DS enters on right side midway along the spiculate section, the spiculation extending a very short distance into the DS. CB simple elongate-ovoid with a small thorn-like signum. Female genital key: Distinct spiculation of posterior half of ductus bursae; bib-shaped area of heavy sclerotisation in central part of ostial plate.
