*The wingspan quoted here is derived from my specimens. The size quoted in MBGBI3 and followed by others (10.5-12.5mm) is clearly wrong.
ID: Group A - metallic; eye fringe fuscous; antenna fuscous with a whitish apex (often not very well defined), basal segments thickened with projecting scales.
♀Basal antennal thickening extends to ¼-⅓ of the length of the antenna ♂Basal thickening extends to slightly beyond first 3 segments and is about as long as the white portion of the antennal apex Males may require genital determination to distinguish from 37.034 C.frischella and 37.035 C.alcyonipennella |
Male genitalia
Vinculum V-shaped with free posterior ends. Tegumen arched. Gnathos median lobe ovoid. Sacculus bowed: anterolateral margin smoothly curved; posterolateral angle with a short posteriorly directed tooth. Valvula elongate. Transtillae short. Juxta a simple small pedicle. Tunica simple, fairly long, narrowing to a pointed apex by tapering of the dorsal surface. Vesica long, slightly longer than tunica; annulus present, narrow; sclerotised arc set at some distance from the annulus (a clear extent of vesica, about same length as the sclerotised arc, between annulus and arc); comb of cornuti in vesica at level of sclerotised arc and slightly shorter than the arc.
Distinguished from C.frischella and C.alcyonipennella by the smoothly rounded sacculus with a tooth at the posterolateral angle and the long vesica.

Female genitalia
Anal papillae somewhat pointed. Posterior apophyses long ~3xOP extending anteriorly to same level as anterior apophyses in the unextended position. Dorsal plate discrete elongate, tapering from anterior to posterior, with an arrowhead at the posterior end. Lateral plates strong and discrete. Anterior apophyses ~2xOP. Ostial plate elongate. Incision in posterior margin broad, extending almost to anterior margin. Ostium at anterior margin. Antrum short (~½OP), sclerotised with a midline strengthening, tapering from ostium to posterior end of ductus bursae. Sclerotisations: bilinear + circumferential spiculation in posterior 1½xOP, then sclerotised tail ~1xOP, sparse circumferential spiculation in first coil. 3 coils. DB slightly expanded at junction with BC. BC ovoid containing a medium-sized thorn with rounded base plate and spike about same length as diameter of base plate.
