ID: Unique - metallic silver longitudinal streaks and subapical spots on an orange ground.
Formerly placed in a separate genus: Goniodoma largely based on larval feeding habits, but this species also differs from all other British Coleophoridae in having a relatively long proboscis and smooth (rather than hairy) hind-tibiae.
Male genitalia
Vinculum V-shaped, the sidearms curved dorsally; the dorsal ends articulating with tegumen. Tegumen tubular, anterior ends extended to reach articulation with costa and vinculum. Gnathos fairly large with fairly strong sidearms and a fairly large median lobe. Sacculus elongate, tapering laterally to a bluntly rounded apex with two fairly long straight setae. Valvula elongate with a rounded apex; broader than sacculus; extending well beyond sacculus. Costa an indistinct bar articulating with tegumen; with a diffuse rounded sclerotisation extending across inner surface of valva towards sacculus. Transtilla continuous with costa but angled anteriorly from it, not quite meeting in midline. Juxta a short sclerotisation connecting bases of sacculi to tunica. Tunica largely hyaline; lateral margins sclerotised and continuous with juxta at base where the ventral surface is produced anteriorly. Vesica longer than tunica; no annulus; concave side of curve with a long sclerotisation. No cornuti. |
